Dear
Editor:
In a front-page article in the March 22nd MDN, "Group
disputes firing at TCAN", I was quoted as follows: "A.
Richard Miller, who volunteers at TCAN, said he will not do so again
until Moran is rehired. 'I think it's easier to get a new board
than a new Mike Moran,' he said."
Although that would provide symmetry, my emphasis that I did not
wish to fire the board went unreported. I value the members and
much of what they have done.
Unfortunately, the TCAN Board unilaterally fired Michael Moran,
ignoring a request by TCAN's core volunteers for intervention. Whether
Michael is rehired should be determined by the TCAN Board AND its
volunteers and artists. Dialing out these critical contributors
may be acceptable commercial business practice, but it is unacceptable
to our many loyal art-center volunteers and many of the artists.
My volunteerism is withheld only until the TCAN Board cooperates
to determine a best course -- through a representative group, a
mutually-agreed mediator, or otherwise.
If, and ONLY if, a majority of this board remains unwilling to cooperate
with the volunteers and regular performers on this matter, my comment
applies: I firmly believe that a new board that can work WITH the
volunteers and artists, and hopefully with Michael Moran, is the
far-better resolution.
Sincerely,
Dick Miller
